Sheep and goat keeper

A sheep and goat keeper is a legal or natural entity dealing with the breeding, protection, slaughtering, purchase and sale, transport, showing, and other use of sheep and goats.

All sheep and goat keepers must be entered into the Register of Livestock Owners.

A sheep and goat keeper is responsible for correctly marking the sheep and goats at their agricultural holding in a timely manner and that correct data on the movement of sheep and goats have been informed to the Central Register of Sheep and Goats in a timely manner and that the stock of sheep and goats at the holding is reported once a year.

A keeper is obligated to keep a Sheep and Goat Register at their agricultural holding. A keeper may mark the animals at their agricultural holding himself and may enter data on movement into the Central Register of Sheep and Goats himself via the VOLOS web portal, whereby no costs are incurred.

A keeper may also perform zoo-technical tasks, for which they must be suitably trained.
