Licence to pursue activities involving radiation

Prior to the start of the implementation of radiation activities, the licence to pursue activities involving radiation must be acquired.

The licence to pursue activities involving radiation is issued to a person who fulfils the prescribed conditions for pursuing radiation activity.

The licence to pursue activities involving radiation is issued by the authority competent for nuclear safety, i.e. for: 

  • the management and disassembly of a radiation or nuclear facility;
  • intentional addition of radioactive substances at the production and making of general use items, import and export of such items;
  • use of x-ray devices, sources of radiation and substance accelerators except electronic microscopes if this does not apply to the use in health care or veterinary practice;
  • disposal, processing or reuse of radioactive substances or materials containing radioactive substances that originate from the use of radiation sources or the implementation of radiation activities under the law, for which the ministry competent for the environment did not decide to consider them under the law;
  • the implementation or development of equipment and technology that is nuclear goods;
  • transport of nuclear substances;
  • transport of radioactive substances if not used in health care or veterinary practice;
  • maintenance, production, calibration or other similar works implemented at radiation sources if this is not included in the implementation of activities under previous items of this paragraph.
The licence to pursue activities involving radiation issued by the authority competent for nuclear safety, i.e. for: 
  • deliberate addition of radioactive substances at the production and making medicinal products, import or export of such medicinal products;
  • deliberate administration of radioactive substances to persons and, in so far as radiation protection of human beings is concerned, animals for the purpose of medical or veterinary diagnosis, treatment or research, if this impacts the exposure;
  • the use of x-ray devices, sources of radiation and accelerators of substances in health care or veterinary practice, except electronic microscopes;
  • the implementation of technical check-ups of sources of radiation used at the implementation of radiation activity in health care and veterinary practice;
  • transport of radioactive substances in health care or veterinary practice;
  • maintenance, calibration or other similar work implemented at radiation sources, if this is not included in the implementation of activities under previous items of this paragraph.
If a radiation facility or nuclear facility must be managed or disassembled for the implementation of radiation activity, the licence to pursue activities involving radiation is the consent for trial operations of radiation or nuclear facility, except if it involves radiation facility where the sources of radiation are used for the implementation of radiation activity in health care and veterinary practice.
