Certificate of entry of a source of radiation in the register of sources of radiation

The user must acquire the licence for the use of radiation source prior to the start of the use of the source of radiation or the certificate on the entry of the source of radiation in the register of radiation sources.

The licence for the use of radiation source and the certificate on the entry of the radiation source in the register of radiation sources is issued by the authority competent for nuclear safety, if it involves the source of radiation used in health care, if it involves veterinary practice it must be issued by the authority competent for radiation safety.

 If this involves weak sources with low risk, i.e. for sources with low activity, lower voltage (for some x-ray devices) or low speeds of dosage, the client submits an application for the issue of the certificate on the entry of the source in the register.

The certificate on the entry in the register of radiation sources must be acquired for:

  • sealed source of radiation, where the activity or specific activity by 10 times exceeds the level of exemption for the activity or specific activity;
  • device with sealed source of radiation where the speed of dosage, measured 10 cm from any access surface of the device where the sealed source of radiation is located, does not exceed 1 µSv/h;
  • no type approval is confirmed for the device in accordance with the regulations on technical requirements for the products and conformity establishment;
  • electrical device that operates at a voltage not higher than 30 kV, and where the speed of the dosage measured 10 cm from any access surface of the device where the sealed source of radiation is located, does not exceed 1 µSv/h; no type approval is confirmed for the device in accordance with the regulations on technical requirements for the products and conformity establishment;
  • source of radiation replacing the used source of radiation which was used based on the acquired licence for the use of radiation source, if the licence determines occasional replacement of radiation source and if the replacement does not impact the conditions of ionising radiation safety from the licence for the use of radiation source.
